Having been born and reared in Louisiana; I would say that the Southerners may indeed be more ignorant (statistically less educated) than other parts of the country. But I would put up three or two arguments about that "dumbest" business.
Case in point: Back in the fiftys there was a Cajun in Southwestern Louisiana affectionately know as "Cousin Dud" (pronounced Koozan Dud) formally Dudley J. Lelanc. Well Cousin Dud created a product called "Hadacol" which was to cure all of our little aches and pains. It actually had more alcohol in it than anything else.
The product which was advertised in newspapers, radio and early tv sold pretty well.
Hadacol came to the attention of a bunch of really, really smart Northerners (one a dem dere coorporations) and they bought Cousin Dud out for several million dollars, which was real money in them days.
So now you know the rest of the story about "Geritol" (still available - only advertised as a vitamin supplement) or how dumb Southerners are and smart Northerners are.

We did fight a Civil War, and we did harbor an evil institution in slavery. We have struggled hard over the years to erase those mistakes, and when “OUR COUNTRY” calls out in trouble, you can bet your ass that a Southerner will be at your side in that battle. I dare to say that without the South, America (as we know it today) would not exist.
We are somewhat like Marines, as there is no better FRIEND that a person can have than a Southerner, and no WORSE enemy!

Does anyone actually know what this means? Does the Big BM even know what it means? I was born in the South and am still here and don't recall ever seeing the inside of a chicken. I have heard however that you have to cook yankee butthead liberals on a slow cooker, otherwise the meat is tough.

I hate to tell you, but this is exactly the attitude most Californians - even "moderate Republicans" - have toward the South. I've no doubt it's the prevalent feeling in the Northeast, as well. There's something about a southern accent that just instantly triggers a "You dumbass!" attitude in people here - that's the main reason Bush is so unpopular in the blue states. Give him a "newscaster accent" and perfect diction and I believe he would get 60% of the nationwide vote in November without changing a single policy position.
He sounds just like the guy Randy Newman was talking about in his song "Rednecks." Anybody remember that one?
