LOL, I've got the back view of him somewhere too. I need to get them together sometime!!
The original finally came out on DVD a few weeks ago. IMHO, it is one of the few movies that is actually better than the book it was based on.
Yeah, I own the VHS copy. Incredible film -- WAY ahead of its time.
The buzz is that everyone thinks Meryl is playing Hillary.
Seriously. Entertainment Tonight has been talking about it a lot.
Which makes me wonder when can we put to death the Campaign for Human Development and the TMO within the Catholic Church in America... Really the question is What sort of Catholic prelate still believes that Catholics ought to be going to the Saul Alinsky Institute for training?
The left has gone all out this year. The media is more partisan than ever, its just astounding. I think if they lose, they will challenge results in a dozen states and possibly riot.
"Yawn - another piece of garbage with a far-left slant being pushed out the back cheeks of the Hollyweird commie crowd. I hear this remake really sucks, which is a shame. The original Manchurian Candidate with Angela Lansbury was one of the greatest films ever made."
Hate to tell you this, but the original movie was "a far-left slant being pushed out the back cheeks of the Hollyweird commie crowd."
I hadn't seen the movie since 1966. I bought a copy a few years ago and was surprised to see just how much this movie was a screed against right-wing extremists trying to take over the government.
From what I remember of the original, it started with a slam on McCarthyism, but the ending sort of proved McCarthy was right. Also, the real bad guys got away. The Lansbury and Harvey characters died but the Chinese brainwashers basically escaped unharmed. It would have okay to have this movie sort of serve up as a kind of sequel, with the brainwashers trying again, this time with someone from the VietNam war.
I ran into a landscaper Monday who buys my plant products. We started talking about the election. I started the conversation. He's a smart enough guy, but he's got that "Bush is in the pocket of big business, Republicans are evil" bull in his head. But I persisted. I asked him what he was interested in. He mentioned "a fear of bombings" in our country. I brought up OKC! Then I asked him to look up Jayna Davis on his computer. He was a somewhat curious guy so he said he would. He drove away, and yesterday he called me back and was amazed at what he learned. To make a long story short, this guy was a sure Dem. voter in November, now he's amazed at what he's learning and had never known. He's asking for more to see. I turned him onto Kerry's activities with VVAW. He's now seriously thinking of voting for Bush. He hates commies. Now he's beginning to realize the commie is Kerry.
ALL of us must find those 'on the fence voters' who we know, find their interests, then give them something to look up and learn about THAT interest.
It works, and if we want to have a chance to beat this sick media/entertainment onslaught, we must individually find these people and make an effort to influence them before November.
It works, but we all have to do it..... or we lose.
I agree on the recommendation to buy it. It can be found in stores in a new deluxe edition release (the prior release was also a deluxe edition with virtually the same bonus supplements). Either version can be found for $10 (or even cheaper).
BTW, this film was supressed for decades after the JFK assassination. Think that the left may be trying to spur a Bush assassination? There was also an author who recently penned a novel with a plot against George W. Bush (mentioned by name).
Buying the original disc and avoiding the remake altogether (in stores, as a video rental, and in video sales) will send a message to Hollywood. Don't make sales of the original TOO good though, Hollywood may take it as a signal that "remakes spur sales/promotion of the original film" and if a studio owns both, may take to trashing the classics for a quick double shot of cash.
Actually, it's more of a cackle.
EXCELLENT strategy. Would you post a link to your new thread? Thanks.
Did you watch the whole movie, where at the end it turns out the ostensibly right-wing extremist Mrs. Iselin was actually a far-left-wing extremist? She was setting America up for an even more sinister evil far-left-wing takeover.
Excellent!!!!!
this is what we need to do... Encourage people to go see this movie. Tell them Meryl Streep plays the best Hilary Clinton role you've ever seen. Stress she is Clinton. Tell folks Streep copied Clinton. Make it look like it was on purpose. Get people to believe the woman Streep portrays is Hillary.
Heck, I even believe it myself. Evil? Check, Blond? Check, Power suit (can I hope for a black pantsuit?)? Check, Older woman politician? Check. yup, Hillary!
I'm going to write the thread tommorrow morning. I'm too tired to do it well enough right now. I'll ping you, K.M.! Bless you.
