YAA! I don't think that there's a person over 10 in America who's not heard his work at one time or another.

Wow. What a shame death is. Jerry Goldsmith was my favorite movie scorer, after Bernard Herrmann.

Very sorry to hear that. I am a big fan of composers, John Williams (Star Wars, Harry Potter, and a million other things) is my favorite contemporary composer.
Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, and Goldsmith are among the others.

The "first chair" violinist has just left the stage. May he rest in peace.

R.I.P. to a great composer. I think his score for the first Star Trek film was about as good as it gets.

Right. Bernard Herrmann was the greatest. Psycho and North by Northwest.

I would agree that Goldsmith was probably number two.

I loved the soundtrack to "Marnie"--though Hermann is best known for "Psycho."

Don't forget Max Steiner, Dimitri Tiomkin, Elmer Bernstein, who did "Animal House" of all things.
There have been a lot quite a few very good composers and conductors.
