An interesting look at the RCOH process (Refueling and Complex Overhaul) for Nimitz-class carriers
The "Ike" has been out of service since before 9/11. I'm sure her crew will be glad when they can take her into the fight. Won't be long now.

My brother-in-law flew the E2C Hawk-eye off the "Ike" back in the early '80's. He gave my wife and I a tour of the ship while she was in port at Norfolk, VA. He spent the better part of two years flying off the Eisenhower (CVG-69). On one deployment the "Ike" was dispatched to the Arabian Sea to back up and relieve the "Nimitz" ... this was immediately after the disaster in the Iranian desert when the U.S. aborted their plan to rescue the American hostages in Tehran. The "Ike" steamed from Norfolk to the Arabian Gulf in 14 days ... some 12,000 miles. She was on station in the Arabian Sea & Indian Ocean for nine months, most of that time at sea.

Despite the challenges of serving on a ship that has not deployed in years...
Heh. Yeah, all that shore liberty is expensive to maintain.
