WASHINGTON (AP) Senate Democrats successfully blocked the nomination of Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Henry Saad to a federal appeals court.
The Senate voted 52-46 Thursday to proceed with a vote on Saad's nomination, but the motion required 60 votes to pass. It was the eighth time Senate Democrats have blocked one of President Bush's judicial nominees.
Bush nominated Saad to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in 2001. Michigan Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow opposed his nomination because Senate Republicans refused to hold hearings on two of President Clinton's nominees from Michigan.
The Senate also was to vote Thursday on two more Bush nominees from Michigan, U.S. District Judge David McKeague and Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Richard Griffin.
The 6th U.S. Circuit Court hears cases from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. It has four vacant seats that have been traditionally filled by Michigan candidates.
This is the Number 2 problem in America, no. 1 is Islamic Jihad, no. 2 is the in-ability of Republicans to appoint judges who are not Socialist. We have to work on electing more Republican Senators at all cost!
Yes but.... the Senate Majority Republicans need to start playing hardball with the Dem obstructionists. I'm fed up with them letting the Dems get away with this unconstitutional nonsense. Let the entire activity of the Senate grind to a halt - might even be better for the country that way.
Gee, what a shock, the Democrats lied when they cut their deal with President Bush and agreed to stop filibustering his judicial nominations!
Michigan news ping.

Nominated in 2001.....disgraceful! Obstructionism at its ugliest.
But, wait! The GOP had a deal with Tommy! He gave us his word!
I don't even get answers from their office. I think they know who I am.
Since they reneged on their deal, I really think Bush ought to make another recess appointment just to stick in back in their face, even though the term wouldn't be very long.
