No hard feelings. Apology accepted.
Thanks for the ping!
I am loath to question to valor of those who are dead & unable to defend themselves. But hey, that is just me
As for "winning", the passengers had a 10:1 numerical advantage and wound up dying anyway. If you want to call that "winning", be my guest.
Had the cockpit been secured, their victory would not have been a Pyhrric. As I recall, Americans lost at the Alamo. Only a silly goose would question the honor of those who gave their lives there.
So it's important to examine why this occurred. I don't think 19 foreigners could have taken 300 Americans 100 years ago. Or even 50 years ago. So what changed?
Well, I might be a literal minded moron, but there were not planes 100 years ago. Per hijacking, the ground rules changed. Before the optimal rule to ensure survival was to cooperate. Now it is to resist. Americans, being pragmatic, game the odds & behave accordingly. Were there another hijackings, they would resist. We are not a nation of cowards, all this nonsense about 'statism' notwithstanding.
In many areas, it is even a criminal offense to "fight back". (This mentality still persists today in many areas-- a retired NYC cop was recently arrested in New Joisey for "fighting back" against a carjacker)
The former officer was issued a summons for illegally possessing a handgun in New Jersey. Do I think it is a stupid law? Yes. But it does not mark the downfall of American civilization. Nope
And other Americans have become even more servile.
Evidently Bin Laden thought Americans were servile. That we would topple like the Soviet Union, once he declared a jihad on us.
Bin Laden was mistaken
Let me be perfectly blunt. I am more than a bit unhappy with the insinuation that American reaction on 9/11 was characterized by cowardice.
Read this poster's statement again. He was referring to the mindset that we had prior to 9/11.
Airlines and airports were rated based on their "ON TIME" rate versus security. Hell, you sure wouldn't want to inconvenience sore important traveler for something as trivial as security now would you? The bitching still goes on about being inconvenienced by security at our airports. Might as well get used to it.
Why is this only being released NOW? Very suspicious. < /sarcasm >
That's a lot of "harmless" razors for one group of passengers.
EMPTY YOUR POCKETS means EMPTY YOUR POCKETS before going through the detector.
FWIW, air crew were murdered on the flights. If they didn't bring blades, they had to kill them some way (strangled?).
so nearly caught . . . if I was a member of a 911 family, this
one would have be peeling off the walls. of course, nobody
knew what kind of hell these miscreants were about to wreak.
I feel sorry for that poor lady picking up her bag out of the X-ray machine ...
I believe the old one we have seen IS at Logan.
It's well documented that these dudes spent hours at the gym during their time in the US engaging in hand fight tactics, knife fighting etc.. We keep saying box cutters because that may be all we know but I'm betting that everyone of them had a knife on them. They're throat slitter people!!
The picture of one of them running up to the gate because he was late - that was in Maine. The picture at the ATM machine, that was also in Maine. A couple of them flew in from Portland and then got a connecting flight in Boston.
Thanks for the ping
I am getting tired of this crap. OK...so they set off the metal detectors...big deal...so do I. They are also claiming that two of these scumbags should have been on a terror-watch list. Great! What the hell does that mean? Does that mean they can't fly? Does that mean we kick them out of the country? Can anyone explain what the hell it means when you are on this watch list????
Problem is, it is the government banning things from being brought on planes. Unlike you, the government does not honor the property of airlines.
Exactly. Those who disarm peaceful citizens are enablers of murderers.
Oh, but that's racial profiling! </s>
It depresses me that most pilots are still not armed.
100 years ago, if there had been such airplanes, the outcome would have been the same.
