In this image from a surveillance video from Washington's Dulles Airport the morning of September 11, 2001, and obtained by the Associated Press, one hijacker out of the five hijackers that boarded American Airlines Flight 77 is being pulled aside to undergo additional scrutiny after setting off metal detectors but then permitted to board the fateful flight that later crashed into the Pentagon (news - web sites). I watched the second hit in NY. My son lives there. I prayed so hard until I heard from him via my other son who finally got through. Then I prayed for everyone else and my country. My son says that sometimes he still cringes when a plane flies over.
I can certainly understand what it must have been like for you that morning, until you knew for sure that your son was OK. I was 4 very short blocks from the WTC when it was hit and although I spoke with my dad right after the second plane hit, I couldn't reach him again until that afternoon. I sense that the hell he went through during those hours was a lot more than he told me.
About a year or so ago, I was on a LIRR train coming back into the city and when we were passing through Flushing (I take the Port Washington line), I saw a very low-flying plane and literally started hyperventilating and making squeaking/squealing noises.
Good thing Al Gore was put in charge of Airport security by slick or something really bad might have happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't seen the video yet but just looking at that picture evokes an emotional reaction in me I didn't expect. Being a NYer, and knowing what will happen to my city (as well as the whole country) after that guy boards the plane just makes my heart leap into my throat.
I keep staring at the picture looking at the oblivious people all around and thinking "These people have no idea what's going to happen..."
It's looking at a "before" picture of a before/after set. I can't even remember what the pre-9/11 world was like anymore.
I was just very plain Ernest , actually I was up in the High Desert, the other side of the mountains .....
I vote for this being the Official picture of this Escapade of SOXGATE!
According to a staff statement of the independent commission investigating the 9/11 attacks, the "working hypothesis is that a number of the hijackers were carrying permissible utility knives or pocket knives."There's nothing to this. You can't apply a 2004 mindset to 9/10/2001 thinking. This tape serves no purpose to the general public except to get them all emotional. It added: "According to the guidelines on 9/11, if such a knife were discovered in the possession of an individual who alarmed either the walk-through metal detector or the hand wand, the item would be returned to the owner and permitted to be carried on the aircraft."
Two of the Flight 77 hijackers, Nawaz Alhazmi and Almihdhar, were on a terror-watch list. At the time, such lists were not compared against manifests for domestic flights.
and still to this day - the ACLU, and many freepers, do not believe that the airlines should be forced to submit their passenger manifests to the government to screen them against the terror watch lists before boarding. we've had arguments on related threads all the time about that issue.
another point - if we could see this whole tape, you'd see Barbara Olson walking past. very sad.
The targets for 9/11 were planned because 19 murderous thugs knew that passengers would be disarmed by their own government.
And 9/11 succeeded because of a corrupt and dehumanzining ideology that says you should not fight back when your life, your property, or your Freedom are at stake. The mindset was the result of 40 years of indoctrination against the American people by statists in the government, police, and acedmia.
Some people will view these videos as a reason for the gov't to provide "more security". BS. It simply shows how America's enemies will exploit any weakness in the system. And few "systems" are weaker than those that disarm and dehumanize airline passengers.
So painful to watch that...
The timing of this leaked video is suspicious. /sarcasm
I usually carry screwdrivers, pliers and other sharp objects in my laptop bag. I carried this stuff onto airplanes routinely before 9/11. Nobody ever questioned it.
I saw it. It made me sad then furious all over again.
Oh, I see you already asked that question. Great minds and all that ...
"Interesting if for no other reason than it shows what life was like before 9/11. "
In some ways, no different than today.
The passage below really ticks me...as I recollect that the purchase of tickets with
cash was a warning alarm to airport officials, LONG before 9-11.
I'd love to know what would have happened to an "average white guy"
in line behind these monsters also buying a ticket with cash at the airport...
(maybe he'd been lucky and missed the flight)
from today's "Yahoo" news:
"The video shows hijackers Khalid al-Mihdhar and Majed Moqed, each dressed conservatively
in slacks and collared shirts, setting off metal-detectors as they pass through security.
Moqed set off a second alarm, and a screener manually checked him with a handheld
metal detector.
The pair were known to travel together previously and had paid cash to purchase their
tickets aboard Flight 77 on Sept. 5, 2001, at the American Airlines counter at Baltimore's airport. "
Although at the time, box cutters were an allowed item to be carried, as a screener, I would've hoped that it set off bells and whistles that 5 middle eastern men in a row all had box cutters in their pockets.
I mean, if they had swiss army knives, OK..most men carry those. But how many average men do you know that carry a box cutter in their pocket every day...let alone 5 men in a row.
For one of how many trial runs????
