Actually, he's a purebred Maine Coon, just over a year old. We got him two months ago as a rescue cat...his fur was horribly matted, he was badly underfed and just 9 pounds, neglected in general. That picture was taken about a month later, after he'd gained a little weight and his fur had started to grow back out. He's looking much better now, though his fur is still another couple months from reaching full Maine Coon length. His tail was amputated when he was a kitten after it was caught and crushed in a door, so we were told. So we call him a "Manx Coon." :)
And yes, he's a very fast, strong cat, as we keep finding out every time we have to give him the oral antibiotic eyedropper! He doesn't like to jump a whole lot, but he is blindingly quick on the ground. His favorite activity is chasing a laser pointer dot, and boy, he can accelerate and corner when he's really into it.
This is our other cat, Livingston, he's also a year-old Maine Coon about 7 weeks younger than Beauregard. Bo's fur will someday (we hope) be this long.

Ohhhh what a heartwarming story! It's so wonderful that you were able to rescue that kitty... it's so sad and upsetting when people throw away their purebred pets, you just know that they only bought them to have a "living trophy". I love Maine Coons... they're soooo big and warm and fuzzy. :o) Both your Maine Coon furbabies are regular beauties. :o)
