One other post raised the question of WHY Bush doesn't go after Clinton.

I've thought about this a lot, and I know a lot of FReepers are really on GW's case about not going after Clinton. My personal view is that GWB is trying to protect the PRESIDENCY - not Bill Clinton - but the office of President of the United States. I understand, as I think it would be devastaing for the country, as well as world stability, to think that a president of the United States would cover up something of this magnitude.

For money? I don't think so, the presidency carries with it so many perks, and even the period after the presidency. Money rolls in. Look at the oodles of cash the Clinton and Hillary are raking in, via books, speeches, public appearances. I think it is all about the power. There is nothing like being the most powerful person in the world, is there. What a rush, as we used to say.

Of course that's been the unwritten law, the outgoing president disapears into the night. Clinton hasn't done that, has he?

I totally agree with you that GWB is protecting the precidency by not investigating anything in the past. But I'm sure his plate is full even without that added mess.

But, now he's faced with the real possibility of the destruction of the county by a Kerry administration. I think it's time for action.

If this is proven, the Clinton's are toast.

Play your cards right, and the Democratic Party will fade away to a place they belong.

Put me in the camp that believes the dems leaked this story. Clinton has commented on it way too early and with a "$h!t eating grin" on his face.

The whole thing may be something to throw everyone off the trail of something even more important and Berger was part of that plot. He can't be this stupid.

This has always been my thought. But I believe W is also concerned with the legality of various issues. This may be part of his strategery - don't misunderestimate him. He may not want to be seen as 'going after' the toon, but may want to make sure certain things become known.
