Huntsville got rid of him early though!
And your right...he would not had made into Rice.

I drove past Sam's giant likeness just a couple of weeks ago. I always go that way on the way into H-town so I can see him towering there amongst the pines.
Just one of the many joys of going through East Texas.

I knew they were building a statue of Sam Houston,
but I thought it was going to be built near SHSU or
the park across from SHSU.
I was out of the country while they built it.
After returning to the States, I topped a hill about
10 miles south of Huntsville and saw it for the first
time.
