I have two toads in my garden (I even made them a little house out of a clay pot turned upside down.)
I had turned the dogs' water bowl over a few weeks ago to wash it and Huge Toad was underneath it. I stuck him out in the garden with Small Toad.
The weirdest thing is, I found a solid black toad out on the lakefront a few months ago. I looked it up on the web and in some of my animal books and I can't find it. I'm not kidding, it looked like a charcoal briquet that hopped.
I have no problems with toads.....but I will NOT go so far as to take care of them as you describe. LOL!
We've got a creek running along the north side of the property, so there are always toads around here.
The first one I encountered here was last year when we were putting plants into the garden....I picked up a pack of plants out of the flat and the toad that had been under it landed on my lap.......startled me to absolutely no end. It was funny....ask my husband or daughter - they both died laughing over my reaction.
