I believe that:

A) For Sandy Berger to risk his entire career, not to mention real jail time, the documents and notes he stole must be absolutely devastating to him and the Clintons. Unbelievably devastating.

B) The Bush people are in possession of copies of every last national security document and note that Berger stole. I believe they fully expected there would be an attempt to steal them, hence the "invisible" coding used by the archivist and the relative ease with which the perp, Sandy Berger, was nabbed.

C) Berger was promised "special handling" (a pardon if necessary) by the "incoming" Kerry administration, a la Clinton's last-second pardon of John Deutsh. This kind of assurance is the only way a simple cupcake like Berger would attempt to steal secret documents.

Good Points. Berger would only take this chance if he knew that the act of his stealing the documents would guaranteee that Kerry was elected. How could that happen ? One would think that covering up the shameful way Clinton et. al. ran the War on terror would not in iteself guarantee a Kerry win. Of course I guess the theory goes that blaming Bush for his 8 months while not having anything on Clintons 8 years of missgivings would help Kerry, but that definitly does not guarantee a Kerry win. That would actually just make the race closer. There must be some piece of information in those documents that would theoritically guarantee a Kerry win. Wonder what that would be ? How would this information be used to guarantee a Kerry win ?
