Although your point is an excellent one and worth pursuing, I would initially take a different approach. The deficit is moot if the terrorists win, which they surely will if kerry does.
That your two friends put more importance on the economy than on whether western civilization will be around to have an economy tells me that they need a little education.

I've tried that approach. Have shipped them tons of great FR docs.
They do NOT believe it.
They are not the least bit believing about the globalism.
They think Soros is a wonderful patriotic man. etc. etc.
I think they have read enough to realize at some point how right I was. But it may be on the way to the concentration camp.
