To: Indy Pendance
Well, there's no technical reason not to ferment fruit flies. Behind their little carapaces are oodles of scrumptions complex carbohydrates just waiting to be turned into nutricious beer. Some of the Belgian monastery beers have floor sweepings in them. Gives 'em character.

The problem is collecting enough of the little buggers to make a five-gallon batch. You can extend the mash with other stuff - Budweiser puts rice in theirs - but if I try sneaking a few cockroaches into the mix Big Ern will take his nightstick upside my head again.

I've got 4 80 gallon compost bins that are too wet. How many fruit flies do you need?

We have a big earwig problem this year. Let me know, I'll get a couple of cheeseheads over for a roundup. I'll bet a couple of those buggers will make a heavier beer.
