There is a large fire in the Santa Clarita Area of Los Angeles County....if you are in SoCal, that is the very large smoke clouds to the north.

I'm not sure .. but my guess is there are not many scenic ridge routes in the area that are open. Unless you mean Angeles Crest Highway, which isn't anywhere near this fire. It's on the south side of the 14 freeway and miles further east.

We were just up there today and saw this fire. Had to move my son to Valencia and were in this area around 1:30. At that time we could see the fire off to the right and it was pretty bad then.

We left to come home at 4:30 and it was horrible. Backup on the 5 was so bad that when we finally hit the 210 we cut across all the way over to the 15.

When we were down by Murietta, we could see a lot of smoke off to the east. I didn't know if that was a new fire or the other fire that was burning over by Palm Springs.

Now that we are home, it looks as if there may be a fire south of us down by the border but I do not know if this is the case or not. Haven't listened to the news yet. Had to check FR for the real news first!

You all up in the fire areas stay safe!

Thank you Lainie for the info.

Just talked to my son up in Valencia to let him know we made it home safe and sound, he says it seems to be getting even smokier. I hope they can get it contained quickly.

the water in this part of LA doesnt come from the Colorado river.

No- Most of it comes from Northern California where I am, and our reservoirs are very low. Boats were mandatorily removed from Folsom Lake this weekend because the lake is below 50%.Water for crops is being shorted, also, so food production is taking a hit so that So Cal homes can have pools. And before you flame me, I lived there for 29 years, and I never understood the overwhelming need for everyone to have a pool when they were used VERY LITTLE.

Oh, I'm sorry, didn't mean to ping you back! I was going to wipe your name & missed. Glad to meet you & know you're home safe, though. Yes it sure got smokier up here. Sunset occurred about 7 p.m., it seemed like!

Regarding the Temecula area:

That fire is in Sage, which is between Temecula and Hemet, and has consumed up to 2000 acres with no estimate on containment at this point.

My husband is on the Pine fire after being released from the Verbenia fire and my son was released from another incident and diverted to the Sage fire. From my vantage point, which is to the east of the burn, it looks like hell itself with what appears to be a 10 mile front.

Last year, this was the approximate area of the Mountain fire that chewed Sage up and consumed numerous residences. You will be able to get more informaiton on the fires by going to the USFS Fire News website and checking into the SIT report.

My family left the area 9 years ago, moved to TX and I now live in CT. I was there until I was 13, I have been back a few times (I was there last year). The whole Santa Clarita area has exploded with new homes since we left. Our little town stayed pretty much the same though. :)

I just saw a long caravan of fire trucks & equipment rolling westbound. They're probably from Victorville or Barstow or something... we know where they're headed. :/

I was at work this evening with a view of the southwest mountain range........which is so full of smoke you can't see them.

Must be Temecula, again!! They went through hell last year.

We have smoke coming in from the west as well. Are there only two fires burning?

Really. I wonder if that's the same report as earlier, or if there are now 200 homes threatened?
