There is a large fire in the Santa Clarita Area of Los Angeles County....if you are in SoCal, that is the very large smoke clouds to the north.
oof, the 14's been closed for hours. I just saw a shot of the I-5 and it's a miles-long parking lot. (KTTV-11)
they are opening s/b 14 momentarily.....they are still firing off of the n/b 14....
Hi everyone!
Does anyone know any information about The Master's College? My son is there working for the summer, and I cannot get in contact with him. Thanks for any information.
I think they are probably quite fine, based on where they are at...This is further up in the hills, north of there, from what I can tell (and knowing the area pretty well)... Probably very smoke covered...but they should be ok...it'd burn a lot of residential/commercial area first... Unless sparks really flew.
Burbank, what do you think?
I did talk to him earlier, and he did say he woke up to smoke due to winds, but not much else.
We had to evacuate during the old fire twice, so this is really freaking me not being able to help him.
I've lived here my whole life. I did not cause this, nor did I ask for this huge explosion of people. It is sometimes a living hell here. Just try to stay in my own community. It has changed from quite a quiet town to a booming big time City here in CA.
From BurbankKarl: "the are lighting backfires at the 14 freeway heading toward the fire.....
14 still closed with 5 inch hose across....."
It was the firing operations last night on the Sage fire that gave the FF's today some wiggle room. Your burn sure got legs today! I was watching Channel 4 tonight at 2200 and it has laid down for the night but tomorrow is only a few hours away. Good luck to all in your neighbourhood.
We're doing pretty good so far here.
Have you ever seen a 5" charged line blow? A person could drown or shoot their eye out!
Thanks for the update.
Maureen
Thanks for the map!
Which way is the wind blowing? There are an awful lot of homes on the south east flank from the 220 pushing back up into the foothills.
We have an east wind down heere in Oceanside that is holding off a massive smoke layer off the coast that has blown down here from that fire.
The A.V. (zone 59) is forecast for 90-102F with 25 mph winds this afternoon.
220
suposed to be 210, Foothill Freeway.
I think the wind is calm right now....one site said the wind is south, the other said its north west....
but as you know, 2:30pm the wind will pick up.
Yep. It's already 10 mph out of the west out here. What's the next hurdle? Homes west of the freeway?
Really!? I never would have guessed that was enough!
Talked to our son last night (North Hollywood, Vineland Ave) and he said the smoke was visible from the roof of his apartment. His girlfriend's family lives in San Fernando, so are much closer to the fires.
I don't think there is much dange of the fires spreading to his area.
aqua dulce? burn east to Mt Baldy and last years burn?
Wow, Karl!! That Sat image it terrific!
Maureen
You really think it'll run that far?
FNC just provided an update on the situation. Apparently the winds shifted to southerly, helping the FF. That's some good news.
20 mph gusts now
