Hil gets speaking spotlight after all
New York Daily News ^ | 7/16/04 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

John Kerry did an about-face yesterday and offered Sen. Hillary Clinton a prime-time slot at the Democratic National Convention.

The move quelled a storm of Democratic protest about the Clinton diss, as her loyalists bombarded Team Kerry with pleas to add her to the roster.

"I even called [party chairman Terry] McAuliffe at home and said, 'This is very [expletive] upsetting,'" said Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings, a Hillary supporter.

Kerry called Clinton from the campaign trail yesterday to make the offer.

"Sen. Clinton is honored and delighted to have the opportunity to address the convention, and she will continue to do everything she can to elect John Kerry and John Edwards," said Philippe Reines, spokesman for Clinton, who's widely considered a 2008 White House hopeful.

State Assemblyman Herman (Denny) Farrell, head of the New York Democratic Party, said, "I think it was just an accident, and we always knew she would speak."

The former First Lady will address the convention on Monday's opening night and also introduce her husband, who is the Monday headliner.

The Bill and Hillary one-two punch gives the senator exactly the role supporters expected her to receive.

"She got everything she wanted. She always does," gloated one longtime Clinton staffer.

Showcasing the Clintons back-to-back on the first night of the convention - two polarizing pols who often overshadow everyone around them - allows enough days to go by that they won't steal the thunder from Kerry acceptance speech on Thursday.

A day earlier, Clinton said she was fine with not speaking, even as former New York State Democratic Chairwoman Judith Hope branded the snub "an outrage."

The Kerry camp insisted Clinton never asked for a role beyond appearing with the nine other female senators.

But yesterday, Kerry spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter called Sen. Clinton "a leader in the Democratic Party" who will be "vital" in making the case against Bush.

Hope, who had noted that female voters are considered key for Kerry, said, "I congratulate Sen. Kerry for moving quickly. .. . I really think it's a very happy solution to a perplexing dilemma."

The Clintons own the party. John F*ckin' dares to cross them, especially Hillary, at his peril.

It was worth it, though, hearing her A$$HOLE puckering up at the announcement! HAHA! The DIMS, so stupid, so lost. A ship of fools without a rudder.

"She got everything she wanted. She always does," gloated one longtime Clinton staffer."

Really? She's never been able to keep her husband from cheating (repeatedly) on her. She's not the Dem nominee for president...or VP nominee. She's an aging old bat with bad hair and a pear-shaped figure. She was unable to push her socialized medicine plan on the American people.

Oh no....methinks her failures in life exceed her successes. And deep down inside, she knows she is a fraud. A marginal performer who slept her way to the top.

I cannot, for the life of me, imagine ANYONE hitting that ass with ANYTHING other than a baseball bat! Her ass jiggles more than a ton of jello and I am SURE that Bill is thanking his lucky stars that he knocked up the first and ONLY time they had nasty libretard sex.

"Does he even realize how weak this makes him appear?"

Exactly. What a pushover. Kerry has always pointed whichever way the wind blows.

This could get interesting, with the clintons once again relevant (in their eyes, at least), and stepping up to the plate, while Kerry is simply the nominee.

I wouldn't exactly call it a "spotlight". She gets to introduce her husband.

Of course, this is the best opportunity to announce her divorce.

John Kerry did an about-face yesterday and offered Sen. Hillary Clinton a prime-time slot at the Democratic National Convention.

There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate;
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea.

Regards, Ivan

Four days of dem convention when they already know who is going to be their candidate! Ten dem women speakers. Saying what?

I do hope the pubbies don't consume four days for a similar exercise.

"She's never been able to keep her husband from cheating (repeatedly) on her. She's not the Dem nominee for president..."

The clintons' marriage was never anything but an alliance for the sake of consolidating power. Maybe Hillary isn't the candidate now, but she's not going to roll over and die just yet.

"She's an aging old bat with bad hair..."

LOL. Kerry and Edwards have good hair, but it's not going to get them elected :)

Did she throw herself on the floor, kick her heels on the floor and turn red while crying or did she just remind everyone about the 'files'?
