This leak apparently occurred during the flight and conditions deteriorated as the flight progressed.
Southwest is noted for the lack of problems or accidents.

Was BWI the scheduled destination? Couldn't have been perceived as that bad on boad if they didn't divert.

By whom? What exactly is a "problem"? Southwest runs into problems every time they fly, just like everyone else.
Those of us in the airline industry know there are many variables, and everyone is subject those. As for accidents, Southwest has had them - and the one which is most interesting has to do with what airline observers have noted for quite some time: hot-dogging eventually will catch up with everyone. Southwest systematically breaks airborne speed limits. This is UNHEARD of at other airlines. You can always spot the Southwest airplane on the ground as well. It is the one going twice the speed of everyone else.
Southwest is a fine airline, but they have a reputation in the industry - and it isn't "known for not having problems" - rather, the common comment in the cockpit of airliners watching Southwest taxi past is, "In a hurry?"

Southwest is noted for the lack of problems or accidents. The people might've just had a bad reaction to the flight attendants' comedy routines.
