With high fuel costs the airlines may decrease the air circulation rate to save costs....maybe they cranked it down a tad too much causing high CO2 effects....?

It's not a drain on gas mileage like when you turn the A/C on in your car.
If that were the case, the passengers could just roll down their windows.
