If they were assembling an explosive device in the lavatory and exploded it, what effect would air marshalls have had on the incident?

They would have to get the explosives on board. There in lies their problem.

The last time I flew it appeared that most people tried to get all their luggage on the plane by carry on.

IMHO, they should ban all carry-on luggage, except those items that are medical essentials.

It seems to me that in today's techno world, a laptop or cell phone could be a bomb and the folks at Security wouldn't be able to figure it out.

Sorry, but after 9/11, my brain can't help but profile.

Exactly....the terrorists know the chances of them overtaking an airplane now are slim to none. They have moved on to plan B. Assembling bombs onboard with carry on parts for assembly from various persons on the flight. We however appear to be still working with Plan A. Planes as missles, and wallow in our political correctness. My interest was peaked with the statement that they were musicians and playing a casino in the desert. Ummmmm...that could be easily checked out. We have a few casinos in the CA inland desert and a few phone calls as to bookings would not be too hard. The terrorists are not stupid and very, very patient.

Ding Ding! We have a winner.

Answer: the air marshals wouldn't have been able to do DIDDLY, once the bomb was ready to go kablooey.

It boggles my mind to see so many educated, conservative people here on FR of all places so apparently unconcerned about all of this. I expected to see outright RAGE on the thread here, and see that "political correctness" has also managed to infiltrate and infect some Freepers.

This is almost sadder than the story, for if the Freeper community (who I always think of as educated, conservative and very smart) don't see this as a problem, one can only wonder how absolutely beyond hope the REST of the country is. (We knew it was bad, but now I'm even more worried than ever that we'll NEVER pull back from the abyss of idiocy that we are in).

there'd be more "guns on the street" and liberals would
blame Bush and Halliburton and try to pass more gun control
