ARGGGHHH! Don't let the enemy define the language ... "homosexual marriage" is an oxymoron. Marriage is an inherently man+woman covenant. There is "marriage", and there is institutionalised buggery.

I am deep in a debate currently about same sex marriages and could use some help. I oppose same sex marriages based on my Christian viewpoint. My husband and I were married by a non denominational minister and now my niece is saying I am living in sin because I was not married by a Catholic priest. Does anyone know the origin of marriage. I am going to request biblical knowledge support to respond to the following snippet from my liberal niece who I respect very much. She is a good person but she is an atheist that attended Catholic schools. I'm not sure which came first.

She says:

to Peter. It's right there in that book, I've read it 1001 times, taken a
quiz on it, etc. Well, guess who Peter was? The FIRST POPE. Since then
the keys have been passed down from Pope to Pope, and the Pope grants the
right of granting marriages to Catholic priests only. Now, I don't remember
the verse in the bible where Jesus comes back and says "Never mind,
Catholics suck, I give the keys to the kingdom to so-and-so!" So you'll
have to point that verse out to me. The last time I read it, Jesus had left
the keys to heaven in the Pope's capable hands, and no one else's.
According to the above-referenced book anyway. So therefore, YOUR own
marriage is not recognized by God, as far as those quotes are concerned.

I know a lot of people who believe themselves to be homosexual. After getting to know these people, I don't believe most of them really are. There are other things at play. At any rate, I think it is VERY sad that by their behavior, these very talented individuals are cutting their lives so short. To just throw away what God has freely given is just not right.
