FYI: only John Kerry and John Edwards declined to vote.
Had this amendment reached a final vote, I would have voted against it, because I believe that the American people deserve better than this from their leaders.
Translation: "I didn't vote before I didn't vote for it."

amending our Constitution -- the foundation of the nation's values and ideals -- has been serious business. So when unelected judges routinely amend the Constititution through elastic interpretation thereof to impose left wing social agendas, that is just fine, but to have an actual amendment through the democratic process provided in the document to prevent judges from doing just that -- heaven forbid! The Constitution never had a right to abortion until the Supreme Court amended it in Roe v. Wade.

John Kerry has a new slogan: Taking a strong stand on both sides of the issue!

It's getting harder and harder to even follow the news any more.
If God does not bring judgement upon America pretty soon, off crap like this, He will need to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.
Dead serious, here.
Millions of state sanctioned shedding of innocents' blood(abortion) and now this? Was it Franklin or Jefferson, or maybe even Lincoln who said something like:
When I consider that there is a God in Heaven who does perfect justice, I tremble for my country.

"The floor of the United States Senate should only be used for the common good....." The is VERY LITTLE that is MORE about the common good than the integrity of marriage, which forms the bedrock of society!!!!!
Of course, if you want a society in which children and adults must deal with the state on their own, without any civil-society institutions (e.g., married heterosexual couples, famlies, neighborhood associations, churches, professional organizations, etc. etc.) in between, then you don't care. But that only works for fascists, communists, and other totalitarians!
You're either with us, or you're with the homofascists!!!!!

The unfortunate result is that the important work of the American people -- funding our homeland security needs, creating new and better jobs, and raising the minimum wage -- is not getting done. How can he complain if he's never there?!?!?!

Actually, this amendment was offered because a judge decided he would change the definition of marriage. He did it with the stroke of a pen.
