FYI: only John Kerry and John Edwards declined to vote.

Had this amendment reached a final vote, I would have voted against it, because I believe that the American people deserve better than this from their leaders.

Translation: "I didn't vote before I didn't vote for it."

Marriage is not important to the future of this country. Of course knowing this ticket, they will deny that's what they meant even as they reassure the gay lobby they're all for gay marriage with a wink and a nod.

John Kerry:

You will not be President.

However, even Republicans concede that this amendment is being offered only for political gains.

Who??? This isn't the same as the "foreign leaders endorse me" statement, is it? Your own home state, Mr. Kerry, is the one forcing the issue on this and when the DOM act is overturned by an activist court, what then? Will the State of Florida have the right not to accept the desires of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? No, of course not. This IS a Federal issue given Article IV, Section 1 of the Constitution and YOU KNOW IT. To say otherwise is playing politics.

Great opening for us. Both candidates are AWOL from their job, don't show up to vote and then wish to lecture the rest of us about working.

It's time for the Bush team and RNC to not just release a typical soft response but blast them with specific details on their truancy, ask for their resignation from the Senate, and use terms like unqualified, incompetent and irrational.

"...this amendment is being offered only for political gains."

O.K. WAIT A MINUTE HERE. I'VE HEARD THIS "ONLY FOR POLITICAL GAIN" STUFF ENOUGH. THE ONES WHO WILL GAIN FROM THIS POLITICALLY ARE THE ONES IN THE MAJORITY. DOES MR. KERRY AND THOSE WHO KEEP SAYING THAT THIS IS "ELECTION YEAR POLITICS" NOT WANT THE CONGRESS & SENATE OF THE U.S. TO REFLECT THE VIEWS OF THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS; OR JUST A SELECT FEW "SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS" AND POLITICIANS?

"The floor of the United States Senate should only be used for the common good, not issues designed to divide us for political purposes.

Hey F'ing kerry, you haven't spent enough time there lately. How the heck would you know what is going on?

When I am president, I will work to bring the nation together and build a stronger America."

In your F'ing dreams.

John-John weren't even present to vote for this. They shouldn't be allowed to even comment upon it.

"However, even Republicans concede that this amendment is being offered only for political gains."

This is a frank admission by the leader of the RAT Party that gay marriage is a losing issue for them.

The political implications of that are huge.

That's the unltimate Dem cop-out on this issue...saying "We shouldn't be messing with the Constitution." It's their way of candy-coating it and attempting to pass it off as something "shocking", as if to say, "How DARE those Republicans attempt to touch the Constitution!"

Pisses me right off.
