No, I agree that this is a truly horrible crime, and that no punishment would be too severe for the person who committed it. I'm just saying that you can't have policy-by-anecdote. If I were to form my judgements about heterosexuality based on the vast number of women that are raped and assaulted by men, I'd be in the same position as people who want to ban homosexuality when a gay guy molests a kid.
And, by the way, I put no stock in "statistics" kept by organizations whose sole purpose in life is to end homosexuality. To say they present their stats in a biased manner is putting it lightly.
There are some studies to support you. Since condemning homosexual behavior and practices appears to go unreported by the major media outlets, you'll only see certain organizations putting the reports together. And because some folks don't want to know the truth they'll hide behind the "I don't like your source" argument.
Checkout the footnotes for the following: Homosexuals, being around 2% (including bisexuals) of the population, account for a third of child molestations. Sources:

Homosexuality and child molestation: the link, the likelihood, the lasting effects.
There is absolutely no evidence homosexuality is genetic.
Homosexuals can change their behavior. That's just one of many links. You can find more of the same here and here.
Homosexuals must be accepted as the human beings that they are. It's their behavior that we must not accept. Yet for those who refuse to open their eyes they confuse a refusal to accept homosexuality (behavior) as condemnation of homosexuals.
