Someone testifying on the floor of Congress can say that the Earth is flat, and this statement will be solemnly recorded in the resulting committee report. That doesn't make it credible.

And let us not forget that the Senate has had actors who played farmers in movies come and testify about the plight of the family farm.

These people were not farmers, and likely have never been on a working farm in their lives. Yet they brought in to testify because the played a farmer in a movie!
