July 14, 2004 -- WASHINGTON — Terrorists said they murdered a captive Bulgarian truck driver and threatened to put another hostage to death in 24 hours, al-Jazeera television reported yesterday. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's group of thugs said last week it would kill the two truck drivers if the United States did not release all Iraqi detainees by Saturday.In a video, the group said it had killed one hostage, but did not name him. The video showed three men dressed in black with their faces covered by black masks. One of the Bulgarian hostages sat in front of them.
Al-Jazeera did not broadcast the execution, but Bulgarian officials later confirmed the death.
Bulgaria said the hostages are Ivaylo Kepov and Georgi Lazov, who were kidnapped traveling to Mosul. They were last heard from June 29.
