Regards, Ivan
I forget what exactly he is "famous" for. Sean said he is a friend of O.J. Simpson. There is no love lost between him and the NAACP though. He came to a defense of a black Bush judicial nominee, and the NAACP told Leo he was "off the plantation" on this, and since then, he has not liked the NAACP.
Leo's a screamer thats for sure.
From The Washington Times:
A prominent black civil rights lawyer from California quit the NAACP this week after a disagreement with the group over his support of one of President Bushs judicial nominees. After Leo Terrell appeared at a news conference last week in support of a nominee being blocked by Democrats, two officials of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People telephoned him and tried bullying him over his position, he said. They were trying to make me goose-step with them, said Mr. Terrell, who joined the NAACP 13 years ago and has done free legal work for the group. I felt embarrassed to call myself a member of the NAACP. I was proud to quit. But Hilary O. Shelton, director of the NAACPs Washington office, said he called Mr. Terrell simply to advise him against billing himself as an NAACP lawyer. Hes not an NAACP lawyer, not even a former NAACP lawyer, Mr. Shelton said. Hes done volunteer work for us, which we appreciate. But when he takes a position that is diametrically opposite from our position, hes not speaking for us, he said. Mr. Terrell, based in Beverly Hills, specializes in civil rights and discrimination cases. He is the author of a book titled Your Rights at the Workplace: The Things Your Boss Wont Tell You. He also hosts a radio talk show about legal issues and current affairs on KABC-AM in Los Angeles. His profile on the stations Web site describes him as an attorney for the NAACP. His dispute with the NAACP comes after Mr. Terrell took a public stance in favor of California Judge Carolyn Kuhl, Mr. Bushs nominee to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Judge Kuhl is strenuously opposed by Democrats and is expected to become the fourth Bush nominee filibustered in the Senate. Shes fair, shes impartial, said Mr. Terrell, who tried a case before her three years ago. Thats all I ever want from a judge.
Mr. I Got A BIG Chip on my shoulder
A screaming, race-baiting, OJ defending slimeball.
I actually first met Leo Terrell in high school--1985, in Los Angeles, CA (Westchester High, near LAX International Airport). I didn't like him much then, for my own reasons, and I notice that he does scream a lot.
I didn't know about his dealing with one of President Bush's nominees...I'm glad to see him on Sean's side about this (and frankly, on the right side), and that Leo is agreeing that W made the right decision not to go to the NAALCP Convention. Although, I wonder if it's more of the NAALCP trying to tell him what to do, than for any other reason.
So yes, I have met Leo Terrell, I disagree with him about as often as he disagrees with Hannity, in fact I think this is the first thing with which I've agreed with Leo, since high school. As for the original caller, I think he got the Hannity version of a "flame", or a "ZOT" (actually, he did it to himself, so I don't know if we could say he was "flamed").
Leo Terrill is a lawyer who is semi hysterical at all times...He made a name for himself in the OJ Simpson trial by being a "talking head" friend of OJ's....He can drive one to drink.
He's a black civil rights attorney and activist known mostly for his propensity to erupt in fits of barely controlled anger.
Leo is a black lawyer who yells a lot. He supports one of President Bush's judge nominations that the NAACP does not want, so he has basically left that organization.
