Makes me wonder what kind of pressure the Saudis and the Iranians are getting from us. Feels to me like this is related to the increased fear of terror attacks and perhaps some backstage threats to the Saudis and the Iranians. This is very interesting. And the amnesty, that can be dealt with later but I suspect a Saudi prison is not a fun place.
Plenty of pressure. Those gov'ts can act with confidence knowing they can draw on the considerable resources of the US when necessary. They will try to do it themselves and with the US watching their back they can get it done.
The Bush Doctrine: One major attack on American Soil = two terrorist supporting governments. Since there are at least four first rank suspects -- Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran and North Korea -- it's tough for them to know if they're at the top of the list.
If "backstage threats" are the catalyst for the recent arrests and this surrender Bush should take credit. This is some serious hard ball that this administration is playing.
