FORT WORTH - The Grinch could steal Christmas this year.
Well, the tree, anyway.
Money is tight for the Fort Worth Jaycees, who have put up a tree downtown for 48 years.
But maybe not this year.
"Donations are down and costs have increased," said Tim Koirtyohann, co-chairman for the Jaycees' tree project. "Each year, it is a bigger struggle."
It's not cheap: The tree costs about $25,000 and electricity about $5,000.
Then there's decorations, cleanup, equipment and more.
The Jaycees hope the public will donate to their Adopt-A-Light program.
If everyone who attends the lighting ceremony gives $1, they could raise around $80,000 -- this year's goal.
The Jaycees hope to know by Aug. 15 if they can put up the tree this year, said Elizabeth Perkins, public relations director.
"This is very, very serious," she said.

A 25,000 dollar TREE? What is it, 500 foot tall?
That's ridiculous! Put a bunch of smaller trees out - or if you get $5,000 in donations, put one smaller tree out. Bigger doesn't have to be better.
The real reason? This appears another liberal ploy to have Christmas put into the past. Liberals are incrementally destroying the American culture. Christmas will not be National holiday in a few short years.
Life will go on! Somehow!
I'll bet they've got tons of money to fund liberal causes and employ liberal bureaucrats.
