There are some social conservatives, or people pretending to be social conservatives, who throw a temper tantrum here every election year. They threaten to stay home or vote third party or whatever just because we don't showcase Phyllis Schlafly, or Alan Keyes or Michael Savage or whoever, in primetime at the convention.

Boo hoo hoo. I'm no John McCain fan, but there are plenty of swing voters who are. So as long as he doesn't say something stupid, I'm glad he's speaking. The conventions aren't for the base. They're for the undecided.

That's pure baloney. Political conventions don't sway voters. Political conventions are meant for loyal party activists to gather together and nominate their choice to run for POTUS. It's a big rally designed to call to action the party faithful and come together to renew an effort by joining in a common cause.

The Republican National Convention delegates are mostly made up of conservatives. Just like the Democratic National Convention will be made up of mostly liberals.
