George Jefferson was a successful businessman, millionaire and owner of seven dry cleaning stores. There's a lengthy story about them here and it makes no mention of any lawsuit. Not that it never happened, but I've found nothing that said it did. Have you?

I just remember something about a lawsuit being involved. I don't think I would have just pulled that out of the air, but who knows? Maybe I'm getting it confused with another show.

A quick google search gave me this. Paragraph 5 says: "George owned a chain of cleaning stores (achieved after receiving a settlement from the city, as depicted in an early AITF episode), and eventually, he becomes so wealthy that the family moves on up to a high-rise apartment in a rich part of town.... as the very catchy theme song tells us." I'll see what else I can find.

Well, I spent most of my unproductive day yesterday running searches for every combination of All in the Family, The Jeffersons, George Jefferson, wealth, wealthy, rich, successful, lawsuit, suit, sued, sue, city, settlement, judgment, Jeffersons trivia, early episodes All in the Family, and All in the Family trivia, that you can imagine, and that link is the only one I came up with. Now I'm going to have to go out and rent the first season of All in the Family to find out if I just dreamed this whole thing up. Now that my curiosity is piqued, it won't quit nagging me. They'd better have All in the Family DVDs at Blockbuster, otherwise, I'm not going to be able to sleep for a year!
