There were 5000 tickets let out for the original event att the Lakeshore arena. Since they realized that the turnout was gonna be so big they took it to the dome (one of the largest wood dome stadiums in the world) and there is another 6 thousand being let out. I'd say with the reserved seats already spoken for there will be around 12 thousand at the rally.
BTW..the raw resources that came from the UP built a good portion of America. 90% of the ore that went for steel production in WW2 came from the mines in the UP. At one time the only place in the world that had such high copper production was in the UP. The highest value of gold per ton was from the Michigan mine near Ishpeming in the 1800s and there is still gold in them thar hills, except it costs so much to get it at todays prices. Most of the Ford motor co's baseline raw materials came from the UP. For its size, it is one of the largest producers of forest products in the nation-paper, hardwood lumber/veneers etc.
Calumet, was a hairs breath away from becoming the state capitol. Calumet/Laurium is the home town of the "Gipper" George Gipp, the player Ronald Reagan played in his 1940s film about the man.
Interesting info--thanks! It is a beautiful area, no doubt. How is the economy doing up there?

I forgot to tell you, I am a Calumet native, so I know that it was nearly the capitol back in the day. Hard to imagine back to those days when the area was busting at the seams! There is a memorial to George Gipp that could use some restoration.
