Explosion Cuts Power At O'Hare

No Flight Delays Reported Yet
Passengers Being Screened Manually

Jul 12, 2004 12:04 pm US/Mountain
CHICAGO (CBS 2) Chicago Police say a transformer between Terminals 2 and 3 at O'Hare Airport exploded at 12:08 p.m. on Monday.

Three O'Hare contractors were injured and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. Their conditions are unknown.

ComEd spokeswoman Liz Keating says the mezzanine, ticket counter and baggage claim areas on the east side of Terminal 2 are affected. Parts of Terminal 3 have also been affected.

Security screening areas have lost power and passengers are reportedly being manually screened with hand-held wands.

The control tower at O'Hare is not affected.
