Got back from my 16-day camping trip & I see I'm hopelessly behind. Spent the last 2 days just catching up on Thread 13 (Awesome, JP!)
Just a little "survivor tip" to add to dweller's and granny's oft-repeated suggestions: DO NOT FORGET TO STOCK UP ON NECESSARY SUPPLIES IN ADVANCE, OR BE PREPARED TO PAY EXHORBITANT COSTS IN TIME OF NEED.
EXAMPLE: Bottles of propane for Coleman cookstoves or Coleman lanterns. These can normally be purchased for under $2/bottle at WalMart. The general store within the State Park was selling these same cylinders for $4.95 a bottle. There are only 2 stores within 30 miles of this park, and their prices were $5.99 per bottle.
I would imagine this principle holds true for most supply necessities. Just a word to the wise...
You can also get adapters to let you run the campstoves on bulk propane (i.e. barbecue tanks or larger), which is much more economical if portability is not an issue. I happen to know that because I list them on Ebay.
