It's inevitable. Unless one of the candidates does a 180 on immigration, you know as well as I do what it will come to in the end. Under Bush, it may happen slower, but it will still happen.

You know, Bush is so far gone on immigration, so far to the left of most conservatives and most Americans that it wouldn't surprise me if he did eventually propose (or go along with) the same thing in the name of 'compassionate' conservatism. I don't think he'd be crazy enough to do it before getting a second term considering how conservatives wouldn't react so kindly to having to pull another knife from their back on this issue after Bush's poorly received amnesty/increase in legal immigration plan. But who knows about a second term?

I hope he and Karl Rove are not that arrogant.
