We had a blue russian who disappeared in February. We're reasonably sure that our neighborhood barn owl ran out of mice and ground squirrels during a cold spell and swooped down and picked up our cat off a car top where he loved to sit. That's the bad news. The good news is, Chewy's last thought was, "I CAN FLY!"

My condolences. We had a hawk around here that was picking up Chihuahuas and the like for a while until one lady held onto her leash and then hit it with her purse (more like luggage).

We had a cat disappear about a year and a half ago, after developing a taste for hanging around on our neighbor's roof...I thought perhaps a hawk or owl got her because we have lots of both. I normally keep my cats indoors, but this one showed up and adopted us - would only come inside for eating and sleeping. She was just getting to where she would hang around for some petting when she disappeared. She was a great mouser too; we really miss that...except for the time she brought the live one in...and turned it loose in the house.
