WASHINGTON, DC Rep. Henry Bonilla (R-TX) issued the following statement regarding John Kerrys remarks to LULAC:
Celebrities at Thursdays New York City fundraiser for John Kerry directed their anger and rage at President Bush, calling him a liar and thug. Instead of repudiating these obscene attacks against President Bush, Kerry said they represent the heart and soul of America. If John Kerry really thinks hate and vitriol represents Americas heart and soul, then he truly has no knowledge of western voters.
Kerry and Edwards opposition to free trade pacts like the Central America Free Trade Agreement and Free Trade Area of the Americas will hurt opportunities for American workers and Latinos everywhere.
John Kerrys selection of a running mate says a lot about what kind of President he will be, and Latinos should be discouraged that Kerry and Edwards have such a poor record when it comes to providing tax relief that benefits Hispanic-owned small businesses and ensuring every child has the right to a quality education.
John Edwards troubling record on issues important to Latinos speaks for itself. Concerning President Bushs historic nomination of Miguel Estrada to a federal judgeship, John Edwards said, We need more Hispanics on the federal bench, but we should choose people because they have the right record, not just the right last name. LULAC was right in supporting the first Hispanic nominee for the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, and Kerry and Edwards could not have been more wrong in trying to block him.
Kerry and Edwards have combined to form the most liberal ticket in presidential campaign history, and they are wrong for Latino families and wrong for America.
I love this, and I'll tell you why, because makes no bones about drawing the equivalency:
"liberal" == "bad for Latinos"
Too bad other race-based organizations don't realize that it is in the liberals best interest to keep minorities in their victim mentality.
Henry Bonilla has a reputation for being a straight shooter and a strong representative. Hopefully, latinos in his district are paying attention.
