In a stunning acknowledgement-----indicative of a major Kerry misfire-----news reports quote Mark Mellman, Kerry's top strategist, as saying that the Kerry campaign does not expect the No. 2 selection---John Edwards--- to give it a surge in the polls.
Mellman claimed the campaign already has coalesced its core supporters and there are too few undecided voters to sway in an evenly divided nation.
Mellman's blatant spin----a last-ditch effort to save the foundering ticket----is one that astute political observers don't believe for a minute. The Edwards pick was expected to lauch the Kerry ticket into the stratosphere.
Mehlman's admission is a stunning turn of events barely a week into the Edwards-Kerry launch.
The conventional political wisdom was that Kerry's boring and haughty attitude was a turnoff----even to his base voters----and that the campaign sorely needed a dose of "sex appeal."
The Kerry people decided Edwards fit the bill. Edwards is youthful, enthusistic, a good speaker (he is a trial lawyer), and has a pretty-boy image that is accented with serious hair.
Edwards vigorously campaigned for the spot and his Southern roots also helped Kerry makeup his mind. even though Edwards did not even win his hometown in his Senate race---and did not win his home state in the presidential primary.
But almost immediately, things took a turn for the worse as the campaign had several defining moments:
(1) A Democrat Hollywood fund-raiser turned into a vile, pornographic Bush-bashing with many of the stars making hate-filled, crude joes at the expense of a sitting president. Not surprisingly, days later the Kerry camp was trying to distance itself from the Hollywarped weirdo Bush haters. One news report, "Hollywood's Bush bashing gets Kerry Some Bad Reviews," contained a scathing review by Democratic Sen Zell Miller. In a statement issued yesterday, Sen. Miller (D-Ga.) said he was saddened, but not surprised, that Kerry didn't challenge the (anti-Bush) commentary. "Last night John Kerry held a fund-raiser in New York that featured performers in a time of war calling the president of the United States a killer, a cheap thug and a liar. John Kerry just sat there, grinning like a mule eating briars," Sen Miller said.
(2) The two candidates engaged in a series of touchy feely personal appearances where they couldn't seem to keep their hands off each other. Some newspapers picked up on it and criticized the overt friendliness of the two men. Jay Leno also did a critical take on it. One hilarious email traveled across the nation which satirized the Democrat candidates' proclivity for playing grabass. The incident spread like wildfire. The hugging and kissing even had newspaper running headlines such as "Daschle Denies Hugging Michael Moore."
One post-Edwards survey published July 10 had Bush and Cheney ahead by 5 poimts in Virgina.
The Democrats internal polls must tell a sorry tale. The Kerry-Edwards ticket upon which the Democrats built their hopes of victory is turning out to be a bigtime downer, and is falling flat on its face.
The Democrats next move should be interesting. Maybe Kerry and Edwards will dose-up on Levitra.
Kerry's hollywierd hate-fest was front page on the liberal Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today. The printed pictures of the various "celebrities" and their nasty comments. It can't help the french-looking one and helmet hair.
Kerry is in some trouble.
Heh. This campaign is going to be worth the price of admission. The Dembos really should just pack up the furniture and store the grits. They've already sold the ranch.
Great.....got a link?
Can you wait for the debates? Man, they will be a riot. Kerry won't know what hit him.
They have the bathhouse vote locked up. Looks like we dropped the ball on this one folks.
That's the difference. Bush chose Cheney because he was the most qualified to serve as president in the event of an emergency and Kerry chose Edwards because he's cute.
The visuals of this last week, prove that when Kerry sees someone as his ticket to the whitehouse, he 'falls in love' with them....
Just ask Teresa, she has first hand experience with this phenomenon. Her money has been John's ticket up to now!
They use Moore and other hate mongers and America haters just like Islam uses Binn Laden to do their dirty work.
Shameless SOB's all!
Bush has a 'campaign advisor' Ken Melhman....
..and Kerry has a Mark Mellman as spokesman.
Must read this article carefully.
Those pictures are so embarrassing....they have no shame. I often play football out on the tarmac before a flight, but it somehow looks cheapened when they attempt it.
This must be why they tried to throw the football today.
I can't remember it, but Leno told a Willie joke last night that was very funny but, of corse, very crude. It got a great laugh but could not have been told about any other person in the world. Only Willie is generally accepted to be that filthy and corrupt.
The neocommunists, especially the show biz slime, are simply trying to treat Bush as EVERYONE treats Willie. They can't see the distinction. They wish to transfer their own self-loathing to another and try to erase their shame by treating Bush like others treat Willie. They'd do it to anyone of very high repute. We, therefore, should understand that they are still Willie's people and still trying to atone for his crimes and disgrace. Flipper John has his own shame and d sgrace and we should not misunderstand the differences between the two men. They include that one is an arrogant elitist and the other, a cunning thief.
...and if you read the article at the top of this thread....it clearly confuses the two names as it references the Kerry campaign.
They don't have the photos and quotes posted online...

The quotes on the front page were...
"He's just another cheap thug that sacrifices our young," John Mellencamp.
"Clinton plays the sax, John (Kerry) plays the guitar and the president's a liar," Chevy Chase.
"I wondered which of the mega-ton bombs Jesus, our president's personal savior, would have personally dropped on the sleeping families in Baghdad," Meryl Streep.
Bump for later
This whole john-john love story is so creepy I'm almost not enjoying it.
Pretty pathetic for Kerry. He should have listened to the NY Post and picked Gephardt. Actually that's what I thought he should have done too. Gephardt would have brought experience to the Vice Presidential ticket which Edwards doesn't have. I think the American people have a lousy taste in their mouths when it comes to picking someone on looks because of Clinton. They won't be fooled again.
These clowns learned nothing from the Wellstone Funerally...their exuberance bites 'em in the ass once again.
