If you're traveling the back roads outside Tucson next week, be on the lookout for camouflage and combat boots.

More than 1,000 troops from Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista will be living in tents, driving Humvees and scurrying around in battle fatigues during a weeklong drill aimed at honing their skills in case they're called back to war.

The soldiers from the Army's 11th Signal Brigade will be camped out in remote areas surrounding Fort Huachuca and near Bisbee, Safford, Chandler, and Florence, said brigade spokesman Sgt. Michael Petersen.

The outdoor exercise runs from Sunday through next Saturday.

The troops will be replicating the telecommunications work they did in the deserts of Iraq and Kuwait last year, Petersen said.

The soldiers build and run the communications systems used in modern military operations, providing Internet service, teleconferencing capabilities and computer networks through satellite uplinks, fiber-optic cables and other advanced tech.........

A highschool classmate of mine will be PCS'ing in there in a couple weeks. Would be a good place to visit this winter :)

I hope they have been issued plenty of ammunition!

It is time we take our country back.

Maybe they can pick off a few hundred "Illegals" while they are out there.

Maybe they can pick up some of the thousands of illegals crossing into AZ while out there - maybe they can stop the al Qaeda from coming into this country via our loose southern border - I hope this "training exercise" is two fold!

That's what I was thinking. Those boys from Ft. HootchieKootchie could don desert camo, dig some of those covert holes, jump up in the faces of some of our guests from the south, and they'll run like they saw the Chupacabra.

Hope they push the Mexican army back into Mexico and shut down its meth labs....
Maybe pick up some al Qaeda and Communistas while they are at it....
And shut that border once and for all.....
After they rid America all the illegals invaders already here first....of course

Knowing the command they'll be busy practicing the commo skills but will have perimeter defenses out. Since it's a Signal unit it will mean a lot of small relay sites and some bigger sites as well as lots of vehicular traffic.

Course, I expect to hear about the PEAENIKS complaining about "militarization of the border" and their other crap.

Keith, if you do come out here this winter let SandRat and I know about it.

We'll treat you and your buddy to dinner. Well, I will. SandRat will probably make you pay for it. He's a tight old codger, he is...

As to HJ's second comment -- sometimes he Kerry's just to get a rise out of me.

How about Daisie-Mae's and we can fill him in on the "Colorful History" of the establishment.

Think he'd enjoy hearing about the "colorful services" from the past but no longer available.
