No, the kid's are not adopted. From what I understand she decided to quit work and have more children after their 16-year-old son was killed in a car accident.
It's unusual, but not unheard of, especially if it's not your first child.

It's the modern medical age. Women give birth in their 50's. Leave it alone, unless you want to be vilified for attacking a man's children.
Kids are a beautiful thing. I will never criticize a man for having children.
