Kerry backs off Bush bash
New York Daily News ^ | 7/10/04 | HELEN KENNEDY

The Bush camp forced John Kerry yesterday to disavow raunchy celebrity comments at the Democratic gala at Radio City Music Hall as the presidential campaign erupted into a war over who has better values.

Republicans hit the ceiling because John Mellencamp sang a song calling President Bush "a cheap thug" and Whoopi Goldberg joked about George Bush's last name and Dick Cheney's first.

The flap accomplished two GOP goals: trample on Kerry's rollout of John Edwards as running mate and block his attempt to move away from Howard Dean-style anger toward a voter-friendly message of hope.

Bush campaign manager Ken Mehlman branded Thursday's $7.5 million Democratic fund-raiser a "star-studded hatefest" and demanded Kerry release a video of the show.

Kerry's camp refused, saying Bush doesn't even let reporters cover his fund-raisers. "The hypocrisy ... is almost unimaginable," said Kerry adviser Tad Devine.

Kerry campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill said Kerry rejected some of the comments, which included Chevy Chase saying of Bush, "This guy's as bright as an egg timer."

"He does not approve of some of the remarks that were made last night and he has made that clear," Cahill told reporters. In fact, Kerry did not comment on the flap.

The Bush camp said Kerry should have disavowed the comments as soon as they were made."John Kerry just sat there, grinning like a mule eating briers," said Sen. Zell Miller (D-Ga.), a Bush supporter.

The Kerry camp noted Bush never condemned Cheney for telling a Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on the Senate floor to go f--- himself.

Campaigning in Pennsylvania, Bush called Kerry "out of step with mainstream values" because he voted against funding troops, federal support for religious groups and a law requiring parental approval for teenage abortions.

Kerry and Edwards accused Bush of trying to distract voters from economic issues.

They said they represent "real American values" because they want to focus on education, health care and jobs instead of abortion, gay marriage and foul-mouthed celebs.

Thanks for your comments, but it appears the point of my post has confused you.

The article cited demonstrates the appetite of the unholy Left to attack and destroy Bush, to the point of impeachment, even over accusations now proven false.

They are vicious and Evil animals.

I will not sleep until the Democratic party is destroyed.

'Grinning like a mule eating briars'. Kerry wears that expression most of the time unless he's hugging Edwards.

RATS booed a republican right off the stage when he tried to give a eulogy at Wellstone's memorial. What seems to have happened is an escalation of vulgar behavior and flat out lies on the part of RATS. Clinton opened the floodgates. Lies are okay as long as RATS are doing the lying. With the active connivance of the media, they're more than getting away with it. They're dictating the terms of any and all discussions, from soup to nuts. Unfortunately dumbbells vote, and they hear some idiot celebrity say Bush is bad, and they'll vote for Kerry because he's busily filming Kennedyesque moments for campaign commercials. Did you know, by the way, that he copied the first JFK's signature endlessly so he'd get it down pat? If Kerry has no core beliefs, why should anyone in his/her right mind respect him? Kerry as President is unthinkable.

With the country at war for its very existence, Chevy Chase's pronouncements continue to be bizarro. I wonder how Hollyweird will feel when they get hit? Will they understand that you can't bargain with people whose only reason to get up in the morning is to kill you dead? Maybe not. Hitchcock called actors 'cattle', and it looks like he was right.

Dean hasn't figured out that his fifteen minutes of fame expired a long time ago. As Kerry put it, he should shut up and sit down. Or sit down and shut up. From credible info, it appears Wilson leaked his wife's name to Novak.

Zell will be wonderful. A man who speaks his mind in the lingua Franca of the South. A little Frenchie lingo there. Sorry about that.

A good Southern Freeper said it was because the mule folds his lips up so's not to get pricked by the briars, and he looks like he's grinning.

That's true. And a horse will do the same. Some love blackberries and raspberries and will pick around briars for the fruit.

Sounds much better with the mule line though. Especially with Kerry's face.

You know, I couldn't agree more. ;)
