Should we adopt the metric system?
Yes, it would be convenient and practical to be able to quickly understand that there are 1,500 meters in 1.5 kilometers.
No, the need to look up that there are 1,760 yards in a mile helps us learn how to use reference books. And it's not really that hard to multiply that by 1.5 to figure out how many yards are in a mile-and-a-half.

Yes, we should go metric. We're already using the SI system on an informal basis. I suspect our road signage will be the last to make the changeover.
I believe that the rest of the world should switch to OUR system.
Sounds typical American to me...
Im with the white guy on this one. Why do I need to know how many yards in a mile?
It seems to me that is has already been adopted where needed, resuting in the present hybrid system that causes little difficulty.
Thanks,
We went through this stupid global metric exercise when I was in seventh grade.
When the rest of the pathetic world can take care of themselves and stop running to the US to solve their problems, then we can consider it.
The metric system is more convenient once you get used to it, but the unit names are too long, too silly and too French. Just rename kilometer into "new mile", kilogramm in to "new pound," etc.
Sounds typical American to me...
You Bet!!!
Celsius makes sense. Water freezes at 0, boils at 100. Scientists use the metric system, and so should we. It just makes sense. 1000 grams in 1 kg. 1 liter of water weighs 1 kg... Guess how much 1 ml of water weighs? :>
The United States will go metric when the NFL goes metric and not before.

Nah... we should just revamp the whole number thing.
We should switch to Base-12. That way, we can divide a single whole into thirds, sixths, and quarters using whole numbers! The only reason we use Base-10 in the first place is because we have 10 fingers. Base-12 is far superior.
Hope you are being sarcastic.
I can't see football kept in metric units of measurement. Its not the same. I guess we will never switch cause that would make football well - unAmerican. LOL!!!
What should dominate? What should we teach in our schools? Teaching both is pointlessly confusing to kids.
No. I grew tired of the whole argument in the 70s.
And the cost (tax dollars) would be how much? The government spends enough already without our help. Don't give 'em any ideas, 'cause they would be more than happy to study the problem, $$$, and then fund the problem, $$$, forever if need be, $$$$$$.
Hear hear!
I'm with you on that one.
