I know they're not "cool," but the air marshals should follow the example of uniformed police officers and wear clip-on ties; this eliminates the ability to be strangled (one of the complaints mentioned in this article).

It would be easy to alter a necktie so that when pulled, it breaks in the back and cannot strangle. Just cut apart where it would go behind the neck then baste it together with 2 or 3 stitches of weak thread, or use weak velcro. Or, clip-on tie.
