Please point out what, in particular, in that speech killed George H.W. Bush's campaign.
It was a close election. Swing voters typically vote on economic issues, not social, and there were a LOT of swing voters in play in '92. They don't want to hear about a "culture war," even if we are having one. The whole speech was about God, queers, feminists, the environment, and abortion. There had to be a way to let the base know that we were going to take care of them on those issues without throwing them in the face of the undecided, who heard nothing about Bush's economic platform and too much on the social issues.
