Log Cabin Republicans Happy With GOP Convention Speaker Line Up

The homosexual group known as Log Cabin Republicans praised the Republican national convention for its choice of “inclusive, big-tent Republicans to speak in prime time at the convention in New York City,” reports the June 30 issue of the Advocate.com, a self-described award-winning national gay and lesbian newsmagazine web site.

“The speakers include former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, Arizona Senator John McCain, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and New York Governor George Pataki.”

“These speakers represent the future of the Republican Party,” said Patrick Guerriero, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans. “These Republicans are among the leading voices for inclusion in the GOP.”

McCain, Giuliani, Schwarzenegger, and Pataki have all been critical of what they call the “anti-gay” Federal Marriage Amendment. Each of these Republicans has a track record of running winning “inclusive” campaigns and of support for many issues critical to the gay and lesbian community, according to the Advocate.

Giuliani, Schwarzenegger and Pataki are ardently pro-abortion as well, as is New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman, and former finance chairman of the Republican National Committee Lew Eisenberg, all of whom are playing a major role in financing and organizing the Convention.

Reagan conservatives are, so far, not to be found among those who will present their views to the nation in prime time during the convention. A few pro-life, pro-family, pro-marriage conservatives, who, after all, represent those of us who are the stakes that hold up the “big tent,” will probably be featured during the morning hours of the Convention, when the rest of the American people are busy with their daily duties and not watching television.

This sorry state of affairs prompted Kate O’Beirne, Washington editor of National Review, to point out in her 7/7/04 column, (http://www.nationalreview.com/kob/obeirne200407070839.asp) that the only announced Convention speaker who actually agrees with President Bush on major issues is a Democrat – Senator Zell Miller of Georgia!

“When the only Reagan Republican to enjoy a prominent supporting role at the party’s Convention is a Democrat, the GOP has a serious identity problem.”

“Given the political ambitions of some of the speakers, the party faithful should pray that Rockefeller Republicanism is not back in the future.” [Is that an echo we hear?]

Kissing up to homos and moderates isn't the way to do it!!! Reaching out to homos will only hurt the GOP base..The people who run the GOP had better wake up!!

Amen!

And that base will not vote when hurt (think Bush 1), unlike the dem base who's morals change with wich ever way the wind is blowing and will vote even when dished over and over again. Does the GOP ever Learn?

no question the GOP is "top Man" as it were where powerful, politically-committed and deep-pocketed homosexuals are concerned. You really wanna be a "winner" ... go gay, baby.

Gain a little money....Loose your base. Stupid party strikes again!

Sodomites do not want "tolerance".

They want to silence Christianity as a cultural force in American life. They want to criminalize Bible-based Christianity as "hate speech" and tax churches that defy them by preaching God's word. They want Gay Pride days at your work place and "Heather Has Two Mommies" on your child's desk at school. Only in a society where nobody cares what the Bible says will sodomy be accepted as normal. They know that. So why should we pretend that these people could ever be our allies ?

If you haven't noticed, the single strongest force in American politics is the Religious Right. Minus the Religious Right, the GOP is a few country club Republicans and the editorial board of National Review. It is Phyllis Schlafly who is the backbone of the GOP and you the fringe nut.

Bush 1 letting Buchanan serve as keynote speaker killed his campaign.

Oh please, Buchanan does not represent the conservative in this party and never has, he represents the crazy loon weird order of the Buchanan brigade. Having him as a speaker was stupid and the following years have more than proved it.

Good post. Nuthin' worse than making the perfect the enemy of the good. Most reasonable Republicans agree on two major points:

1) Low taxes, small government, fiscal responsibilty (vast majority of voters want this when properly phrased)

2) A strong proactive military (vast majority of voters want this regardless of how its'phrased)

Focus on these two things, agree to disagree about the other things (i.e., do nothing unless "the public" demands it) and with the continuously dwindling numbers of rat-voting union members becoming a non-factor (where's Gephardt now?) you've got a solid GOP majority.

Countrywide.

Exclusion and shunning are also ugly. (Have you NO homosexuals in your family? If not, you must have a very small family.)

I appreciate the posts you have made on this thread.

What a truly ignorant and senseless comment to make.

But I guess it shouldn't surprise me given your previous posts.

Homosexual Agenda Ping - Kind of. Worth a look - this is the second article I've see today about the "big tent" (how I loathe that phrase) Republicans (RINO?) speaking at the convention. If the Log Cabin Fake Republicans are happy, I'm not.

I fervently hope that the RINO season isn't the future of the GOP. I also fervently hope that support for marriage is mentioned at the convention.

Let me know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.

Anyone who does not understand the concept of "big tent" does not understand Republicanism, nor the Republican Party.

Any party who does not understand making your base happy, that gives you your wins year after year, is stupid! Especially with a base like ours who when jilted does not vote, unlike the dem base who keeps voting when jilted.

When you do not give our base a moral candidate to vote for, they walk. When it becomes obvious you are only playing them lip service (Bush 1, with finding out in the second term his wife was pro-choice, not to mention broken promises) they walk.

You want those votes, but you want to ditch what gets those votes. The stupid party rides again.

Republicans are playing a dangerous game here. Do we really want the rise of a Christian Constitutionalist party, when we are on the verge of watching the dem party die? We will give them power for decades to come.

Make your base happy first, then appeal to the unwashed.

You said:

What does having homosexuals in one's family have to do with anything? People have drug addicts, alcoholics and kleptomaniacs in their families too. Being related to someone with a mental illness or criminal or sick procilivity doesn't render said illness or proclivity harmless or cute.

So you consider that homosexuals shouldn't be excluded from being mentors of youth, such as Boy Scout leaders or Big Brothers and Big Sisters?

"big tent" = the circus, all-sales-final merchandise, here-today-gone-tomorrow snake-oil salesmen...fun and games, but not a place for serious debate.

Oh come on ...

Truly savvy pro-aborts (like Laura Bush, Barbara Bush, Nancy Reagan, et al.) know it's the GOP whose "rape/incest" provision stands like a stonewall to support legal abortion in perpetuity.

Same goes for truly savvy gays ... not lunkhead lesbians whose shrill bark and savage bite is used to convince the Herd that Offing their Own is the zenith of empowerment, etc. ... but the sort of homosexuals who recognize in Bush's staunch support for "civil unions" the exact same sort of Compromise by which he empowers exactly that which the Faithful believes he's rooting out.

=== What a truly ignorant and senseless comment to make.

Truly? Ought to be a walk in the park to prove it, then.

And because you only focused on those 2 things a Christian party forms and the dem have control for decades to come.

The Republicans are where they are today because the Christians and others of morals have left the dem party in record numbers. After having left one party, leaving this one will cause them no problems. They have already proved what matters to them more than anything else. Why even risk it? Especially when things are looking so bright for the Republicans. I don't get it.

“The speakers include former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, Arizona Senator John McCain, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and New York Governor George Pataki.”

One out of three who can claim to any kind of traditional conservative, and even his credentials are suspect.

“These speakers represent the future of the Republican Party,” said Patrick Guerriero, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans.

Dear lord, let's hope not!

“These Republicans are among the leading voices for inclusion in the GOP.”

In other words, these "Republicans" are more suited to be Democrats. "Inclusion" isn't an ideology; it's the LACK of one.

They know that forcing social conservatives out of the Republican Party will lead to its collapse and the Demonrats will control everything.

Exactly!

Excellent point!

If Bush loses in November, it will be because Rove convinced him he could ignore conservatives the way the Dems ignore blacks. What Rove doesn't "get" is that conservatives will sit it out or vote third party rather than vote the lesser of two evils.

Should this indeed happen, let us pray that the Republicans understand this, and don't jump to the conclusion they didn't go far enough in pandering to the illusive Hispanic and Soccer Mommy vote.

Otherwise, our republic is indeed doomed

I would rather have a pro-choice Republican in office than a pro-choice Democrat, or even a pro-life Democrat for that matter.

Lord, have Mercy on us. I voted for pro-life Democrat Bob Casey for PA gov. If I had the choice today to vote for either Bob Casey or pro-abort "Catholic" former PA Gov Tom Ridge I would vote once again for pro-life Democrat Casey.

"LIFE, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness."

LIFE comes first. Its not "single issue," its the FOUNDATIONAL issue upon which all other rights rest.

If the politician can't get it right on basic human rights, they won't get it right on much of anything. I won't vote for them. Period. Regardless of their party.
