A stubborn Kid Rocks the Bush vote
New York Daily News ^ | July 7, 2004 | Lloyd Grove

It was a lazy afternoon at Russell Simmons' spread outside downtown East Hampton. The hip-hop and fashion mogul, his younger brother Joe (aka Rev. Run, who's filming a pilot of his own reality show for the ABC Family Channel), movie director Brett Ratner and his girlfriend, Serena Williams (recovering from her defeat in the Wimbledon final), were getting a little antsy on a rainy Monday, wondering what to do with themselves. Then Kid Rock arrived. So they all decided to drive into town and take in a movie.

They jumped into various vehicles and headed for the United Artists East Hampton theater on Main St.

Standing in front of the box office and perusing the titles, Simmons suggested that everybody catch the 7:15 showing of "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Kid Rock balked.

"I don't want to see that, it's all propaganda," the rock star said - sparking a prolonged political debate right there on the sidewalk.

"Russell, don't you understand, everything we got in this country, we got from fighting," Kid Rock argued, according to Simmons' account. "It's just a movie. ... I'd rather go to the bar across the street."

Kid Rock refused to see the movie, and said goodbye. The others bought tickets and went into the theater.

A couple of hours later, Simmons returned to his parked car. On his windshield was a scribbled note:

"Vote Bush. Bush Rocks," apparently written by Kid Rock himself.

Only in the Hamptons, kids, only in the Hamptons.

Kid Rock never forgot where he came from. The sticks of Northern Macomb.

I have a newfound respect for Kid Rock... He's not as dumb as I thought he was. He knows when someone is lying to him.

Way to go Kid!

Look up the "DixieCrats" and explain that to them! The only reason that blacks feel the democrats are 'for blacks' is because JFK signed the civil rights bill. Not many have moved forward since.

The same bill the Republicans made sure got to JFK's desk.

Kennedy never signed any major civil rights legislation, it was LBJ.
Democrats try to mythologize JFK, but in reality he was a mediocre president at best.

Ah yes, you're correct, the Civil Rights Act was signed into law in 1964.

Now cut the hippy hair, shave yourself, quit acting like a piece of trash, and I'll be proud to have you represent my views.

The same bill the Republicans made sure got to JFK's desk.

Actually, if you're talking about the Civil Rights Act (1964) and the Voting Rights Act (1965), they were both signed by LBJ after JFK had been killed. Also, many 'Rats tried to filibuster the bills (including Al Gore, Sr. on the first one), and the GOP saved them by voting in higher percentages in both the House and Senate for each of them.

The "Jim Crow" laws and segregation were both products of the 'Rat Party, and Woodrow Wilson even tried to ban blacks from civil service jobs.

A black friend of mine, who holds a J.D., used to work as a stockbroker, and has now been in higher ed for about five years, said during the Reagan funeral that his tax cuts were the most significant civil rights legislation since the enactment of the 14th Amendment, and when you think about it, he's probably right. They were responsible for more blacks and poor people in general reaching the economic "promised land" than just about anything else in our history, and there's been no law that couldn't have been affected simply by a vigorous enforcement of the 14th!

Whenever I get into a discussion about race, with a Dem or a Pubbie, I make sure to put the truth on the table. Its fun watching the 'Rats sputter "But, but..."

No, I simply think Nugent and Kid Rock are nuts. They don't seem like they're "all there." A few slices short of a whole loaf. I agree with them politically (most of the time), but I think they're both wackos, personality-wise. Then there's Gene Simmons. Need I say more?

There are plenty of cool conservative country artists, but the right-leaning rockers are all a bit loony.
