NEW YORK -- It was an airplane mechanic, not a reporter, who got the scoop on John Kerry's choice of John Edwards to be his running mate.
Bryan Smith of U.S. Airways was riding through a hangar in Pittsburgh Monday night where Kerry's 757 was waiting for a trip to Indianapolis the next day. Smith was told the hangar was off limits.
But he says some of the windows were left open. When he looked inside, he saw "Edwards" decals being attached to the plane's fuselage, then quickly covered with brown paper and masking tape.
When Smith got home that night, he posted that on a little-known aviation Web site. The site usually gets 5,000 to 10,000 hits a day. Tuesday, it got over 60,000.
Smith learned about Edwards even before Edwards was asked.

He ought to be fired.
So what ever happened to John Kerry letting his supporters know ahead of time by way of e-mail?
Flip?
It came after the public announcement.
Then "Kerry lied!"
So, did they put "John Edwards, Vice President" on it?
Sounds like his entire campaign. "I'll tell you what I'm going to do after you elect me".
I guess there was no doubt that, if asked, Johnny boy would accept the position.
If he was, he'd probably win a wrongful termination lawsuit. He looked through a window "in plain view" and saw interesting activity and posted it on his website. I don't think airport hangars are subject to HIPAA or other privacy regulations, do you?
It was pretty stupid to identify himself. I'm sure there's some place he could have anonymously posted the information.
I don't recieve the DNC e-mails, but I can honestly say that 30 minutes before the unveiling of the new VP on all the media outlets, I happend to go to DU figuring they'd be in the know, but the DU'ers who admitted they were on the DNC e-mail list were still waiting for their DNC e-mail.
I noticed that the democrats aren't saying much about the AWOL e-mail.
He did post it actually, on an aviation enthusiast website, which another FReeper happend to have posted the night before the grand unveiling. I clicked on the link, and the guy went into such great detail as to say that the ATC controllers were openly talking about it on the radio to several incoming and outgoing planes at PGH (Alleghany International Airport in Pittsburgh). Anyone with a scanner would have been able to ascertain the gist of the conversation had they been listening to it. Divulging such conversations to the media is illegal under federal law.

If it was someone disclosing a republican secret would you be so supportive?
Who says I was supportive of this action? I was just saying that it was dumb to disclose this information in a way that made it possible to track down the source. Personally, I think he should be fired.
Hey, if you were first and it was your web site it would be a big deal. About time someone besides FR got credit for being a day ahead of the news - alright, so FR is usually three days ahead, you get the idea.
So then, we agree to agree......LOL
