WASHINGTON This is a partial transcript of The Tony Snow Show, FOX News Radio, July 7, 2004, that has been edited for clarity.[snip]
SNOW: Senator, what do you make- there are a lot of Democrats out there, I dare say there are a lot of people listening to this show who believe the President has lied. What do you tell them?
McCAIN: I dont- Im on a commission appointed by the President as far as weapons of mass destruction is concerned. I think the President of the United States was given bad intelligence information, and and weve got to get to the bottom of it. Colin Powell believes that. Im sure that the evidence shows that it was not the immediate threat that the President believed there was, but I would quickly add, I also believe that if Saddam Hussein were still in power today he would attempt to acquire weapons of mass destruction, and if he had the opportunity, he would use them. Which to me, justifies our entry into Iraq.
SNOW: Senator, Dick Cheney has become the focus of a lot of controversy now. In fact, theres talk now of his being taken off the ticket.
McCAIN: I doubt that seriously. I think he enjoys a relationship with the President that is almost unique, and I think they are literally a team, which not- which is very unusual in American political history.
SNOW: Do you think he is a good Vice President?
McCAIN: Sure, sure. Sure I do.

So McCain ISN'T going to call democrats who lie about our president "liars" ....
Did President Bush call Iraq an "immediate threat" ?
No, he did not.
Before September the 11th, many in the world believed that Saddam Hussein could be contained. But chemical agents, lethal viruses and shadowy terrorist networks are not easily contained. Imagine those 19 hijackers with other weapons and other plans -- this time armed by Saddam Hussein. It would take one vial, one canister, one crate slipped into this country to bring a day of horror like none we have ever known. We will do everything in our power to make sure that that day never comes. (Applause.)
Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly emerge, all actions, all words, and all recriminations would come too late. Trusting in the sanity and restraint of Saddam Hussein is not a strategy, and it is not an option. (Applause.)
Nicest word I can come up with right away is "weak." Weaker than the facts warrant.

It would have been nice if McCain would act like a real conservative and, without getting down and dirty, use Kerry's own words against him.
In 1997 Kerry was on Crossfire and said it would show leadership if Clinton would attack Iraq even WITHOUT the UN's approval!
Now, of course, he says the opposite.
He had a few choice words for Germany and France too and didn't seem to think so highly of them back in '97.
I wonder whether the Dems ever feel guilty about raining such heavy fire on such a bunch of unarmed Quakers.
(pause)
No... no, I don't really.
