Greg Summers (aka Sultan88) paased away this morning in a Petersburg, Virginia hospital. He's been sick for some time, but this news came as a total shock to me.
Greg was a kind, gentle man, who had a passion for all things that make America great...I am honored to consider him a good FRiend and he will be greatly missed by myself and all those who got to know his wisdom and sense of humor on FR.com. This is simply devastating news!!
My prayers go out to his family, including his son who we've come to know as 'yankhater" around here.

Wonderful tribute to a great man, Mark...I look forward to meeting you and your mom this evening and tomorrow.

That seems to be the consensus of those who new the man...MUD
Greg Summers touched many, whether they be in Ireland or southern Indiana mattered not, he had very long arms.
Mark, your words to us on your father were the kind that speeds a man to Heaven.
I know exactly how you're feeling now, having lost my father some years ago.
I also know you'll understand when I say a man really doesn't become a "man," until his father dies.
Because only until then, does he stand alone as a man.
Please accept Kate's & my sincerest condolences to you & your family.
...we share your hurt.

There is a virtual guestbook at the funeral home for a tribute to The Sultan.
God Bless his soul.
I concur with everyone. Thank you for sharing your father with us. I truly feel blessed and feel that I am a better person having known him.
Although I can't be there for the services in person, I will certainly be there in spirit.
Vicky
I'm sorry to hear that, Mudboy.
Rest in peace, Sultan88. :(
I haven't read the whole thread yet, but has anyone mentioned--can his screen name be put up on the memorial?
Mark-
Thank you for sharing a little of your dad with us.
I didn't know him very long. Long enough to enjoy a couple of RTM's with him and some other Richmond Freepers. But, he was (and still is) one of the nicest, smartest, most wonderful people I've ever had the priveledge of knowing.
I'm sure your loss is more than I can imagine but I hope it helps to know how much all of us here loved him and will miss him.
With my most heartfelt sympathy,
ice
Amen!
I can't really say much more, because I'm getting teary-eyed again here, in work.
Your father left us a better world. God Bless you and your loved ones, Mark.
"Big Bad Jawn"
(To be sung to the tune of "Big Bad John" by Jimmy Dean)
(Big Jawn...Big Jawn)
Ev'ry mornin' on the Hill you can see him arrive
A grizzled, white-haired man, about seventy-five
Kinda slump'd at the shoulders and feeble at the hip
But all them RINOs knew ya didn't give no lip to Big Jawn.
(Big Jawn...Big Jawn) Big Bad Jawn (Big Jawn)
Everybody knows where Jawn calls home
A big, marble palace called the Capitol Dome
He went from Committee Chair to the RINO head
And if you thought to ever cross him, youd end up dead - Big Jawn!!
Some say he got rich on Liz Taylor's cash
And landed in the Senate after Obenshain's plane crash
With 50 per cent against his DemonRAT foe
Was all he needed to grab his power-hungry hold - that Jawn.
(Big Jawn, Big Jawn) Big Bad Jawn (Big Jawn)
Then came the day; it was "Farris versus Beyer"
Mike needed help to douse the LeftWing's lyin'...
Christians were prayin' and hearts beat fast
Still, the RightWing smelled Victory at last-'cept Jawn.
Through the haze and the smoke of that election-year hell
Came Jawn's Deal with the Devil that Conservatives knew well...
RINO Jawn trashed his brethren and made the RightWing groan,
And Radical Mike stood all alone thanks to Big Jawn.
(Big Jawn, Big Jawn) Big Bad Jawn (Big Jawn)
And in 94 it was Ollie North against Robb
Then Big Jawn decree'd, "Hey, Chuckies my BackRubBud!"
And Medyuh Whored scrambled from Left's would-be grave
To do their duty, ChuckiesCheeks to save...fer Big Jawn.
With lies and Lib'rals, Jawn tore Ollie down
And ran a third candidate that Big Jawn found
As the dust finally settled from that awful fight
Jawn was the TV hero that election night - Big Jawn.
(Big Jawn, Big Jawn) Big Bad Jawn (Big Jawn)
The VA Right barely recovered from that cowardly s***
The GOP wants to build a statue in honor of it
And in Two Thousand and Two theres one plan
And thats to insure no one run against this awful man Big Jawn.
(Big Jawn, Big Jawn) Big Bad Jawn (Big Jawn)
FADE (Big Jawn, Big Jawn) Big Bad Jawn (Big Jawn)
Entirely conceived and written by my good FRiend, Sultan88!!!
RETIRE THE RINO, Gentleman Jawn Wahnah!!

Prayers and love to his family.
I see Mud already pinged you, but just in case, here's another one.
I am so sorry. Prayers to his family.
My Friend Greg Summers
Greg was truly a blessing to all that knew him, and I
am grateful to have gotten to know him through phone
conversations and emails. He was always cheerful.
Greg only complained but once to me about his illness, just a couple of weeks ago. Most folks did not even know how ill he had been for so many, many years.
As his son Mark has said, we will never know how sick and ill he felt; but when he wrote to me a few weeks ago, that he was tired of being sick, and that sometimes he felt so worthless. I emailed him back, that he was far from worthless, and was an inspiration to me, as to how to be patient and kind, and that I wished I could be more like him.
Greg Summers was, and is;
A testament of strength, courage, and decency.
He was also a testament of how a person should be, as a Christian; to live and be like Jesus, in His kindness and compassion for others, without guile and malice.
May God be with the entire Summers family in this time of their mourning.
To Greg, my FRiend;
I know you are in Heaven now, my thoughts go up to you:
I know you have a new and perfect heavenly body now, and are free of pain and illness, and are enjoying the beauty and riches of Heaven, far beyond what our earthly minds can even begin to comprehend.
Thank you for being my friend, Greg, and until we meet again;
"When we've been there,
Ten thousand years.
Bright shining as the Sun;
We've no less days,
To sing God's praise,
Than when we'd first begun."
God Speed, my FRiend. I will never forget you.
Missed this earlier :(
FR has lost a Southern gentleman.
Rest in Peace, sir.
Very saddened to hear of this loss. Sleep well sultan88...
Your testimony of this man is moving. It is good to know there are still such people around.
