Prayer request for my Dad
Self | Thursday, July 8, 2004 | Flyer

Posted on 07/08/2004 4:39:16 AM PDT by Flyer

My Dad needs your prayers - and a card, if you could.

After successfully battling colon cancer 4 1/2 years ago - and 3 follow up surgeries to correct problems with his colostomy - he was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, with tumors on his spine and lung.

He started radiation treatments on one tumor but became too weak to get out of the house. We will be bringing in hospice care in a few days.

Your prayers for comfort are appreciated.

Why a card? My Dad is a collector of things. My local FReeper friends that have seen his house can attest to that. Pictures and cards are very meaningful to him. Computers and the Internet are not his cup glass of iced tea. If I printed this thread and presented it to him it wouldn't mean nearly as much as a card.

My Dad (Wilburn) is 80 years old and a widower. He served in the Pacific in WWII in the Navy Signal Corps.

Freepmail me for his address if you can send a card. I will reply as soon as I can.

I'm deeply sorry for his passing but I bet he was proud of how his son cared for him during his last days.

What a wonderful post!

Thank you, as your post says it all about Flyer.

There has never been anything about him, from him, in the years that I have known him. It has always been about someone else.

Flyer is a good man and I am better for knowing him. I am far better to be able to call him friend.

You're breaking my heart! I didn't realize how bad it was and had prayed and hoped he could be helped. I'm so sorry. Isn't Hospice care wonderful? Hospice helpers are truly God's angels here on earth! My mother was helped by them before she passed (Thanksgiving 1998).

God's will called for your father to go home and I'm happy that he passed peacefull and free of suffering. May God bless you and comfort you, and may you draw comfort from all of your FRiends here at FR who pray for you and your father.

Your father Wilburn's generation was "The Great Generation" and the world will never see the likes of them again.

You can be very proud of your father and all he has done - hey - go look in the mirror!

Thanks for sharing your dad with us.

:~)

I am so sorry. I lost my mother in March. Hospice turned out to be wonderful insuring that every need taken care of and explaining the process to us.

Sometimes it is just their time to go. In my mother's case it would happen at some point and I realized that I did not want her to continue hurting every time they moved her so that she could remain a few more months. It was just better for her even though, of course, I did not want to lose her. It seemed to help me to realize that it was coming in the near future anyway at best so it was unavoidable.

God will comfort and bless you and his loved ones. He is now at peace. I am sure he realized the kindness and love you showed as he went through this - that is such a blessing to a loved father and he was very fortunate to have you.

I hope by now you've read my FReepmail. I just wanted to say that I'm proud you are my friend.

If there were more people with your good character the world would be a far better place.

No doubt you learned at your daddy's knee...
